WHEN the Aberdare Schools’ League
was formed, Park Boys’ School was one of the original members. The school football
team was then in the charge of Mr. Edward Davies, who later became headmaster Gadlys
Central School. Mr. D. Beynon Jones and Mr. W. Williams also took an active part
with teams during this period. A very good player was W. T. Williams (Pinkie).
Mr. Harry Williams then ran the school team and was successful in winning the Schools’ League
Shield for the season 1926—27. Two boys, Lewis Jones (now in Hollywood) and Glyn
Jones, gained International Caps. Other outstanding players during this period were:
E. C. Jones, G. Abraham, D. W. Lewis, R. Daniel, and Iorry Walters,
The Shield was again won in 1929—30, when Mr. C. O. Evans was in charge of
the boys. Trevor Walters (now captain of Chester City) was awarded an international
cap; he was also a very prominent player in the Town team during that season.
Later Mr. Idris Davies took charge of the team. The Schools’ Shield was won
for the third time in 1939—40, and the school won its fourth international schoolboy
in Desmond Tennant. Several boys played for the Town—L. Parry, G. Glover, W. Evans,
L. Thomas, W. Prince, F. Jones, F. Parry, D. Jones, Reg Jenkins, M. Jones, R. Ackerman,
Malcolm Davies, Windsor Lewis and Trevor Jones.
The School has also had a very successful record in the many swimming galas held
in the Aberdare Park. Some outstanding swimmers were A. Morgan, A, Daniel, G. Daniel,
T. R. Edwards, D. W. Griffiths, F. Bird and R. Arthur.
